This is the first in the Core Data series of video for Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4. I am so excited to be doing these videos for this awesome course. This video looks at what data and variables are. I look at how we can classify data in terms of numerical and categorical data and then, sub-divide those categories into discrete and continuous and nominal and ordinal. Lots of examples of data types are given with a sprinkling of humour and Usain Bolt! I hope you enjoy the video!

By the end of this video, I would hope that you have an understanding and be able to apply to questions the following concepts. Know the different way we can display and describe the distributions of categorical variables including the frequency table, The bar chart, and stacked or segmented bar charts. Know what the mode is and what it is used for. Know how to answer statistical questions involving categorical variables. This video will answer everything you need to know as part of the Core: Data Analysis for Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4.

By the end of the lesson I would hope that you have an understanding and be able to apply to questions the following concepts: Understand why we would need to have methods to display numerical data. Understand what a grouped frequency distribution is and how to create one. Understand what a histogram is and how to create one (both by hand and using your CAS) from a frequency table and from raw data. Know what to look for in a histogram in terms of Shape, Outliers, Centre and Spread. Also, know what Range is; how to find it and why it's not always the best thing to use.

This video is awesome and explains all you need to know about logarithms and why we might need to have a better scale to help us show large numbers. This video looks at how we can define logarithms. We look at the bases of logs. We look at how to convert to and from logs and, most excitingly, how to use the CAS to draw histograms which use log functions. This video is part of the Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4 course.

These are the videos which are available in each chapter. You will notice that some are free and some are for subscribers only. Making and hosting these videos costs a little bit of money. To help pay for the hosting fees I have no choice but to hide some of the videos and make them for subscribers only.
